Content: We will cover chapters 10-15 of Noggle's text this quarter. Homework assignments will be taken from the Noggle and Barrante texts and from in-class handouts.
Format: There will be three 50-minute lectures weekly, in addition to a voluntary help session. We will have a two midterm exams, weekly homework/Mathcad assignments, and a comprehensive final examination. New this term: At the beginning of each lecture, you must turn in your recopied/rederived lecture notes from the previous period. Photocopies of notes you took during class are NOT acceptable and will be given a score of 0/10. Your notes must be legible and they must contain in complete form any derivations that I ask you to finish during lecture. Lecture notes will NOT be accepted late, and are worth 10 points per period. We have 30 lectures this term so this is a major portion of your grade. I am more than willing to help you with the derivations etc presented in lecture if you ask. If you didn't understand something that we did during class time, this is an excellent opportunity for you to get help and keep current on the course material.
Your performance in this course will be a direct reflection of two factors: (1) the amount of time spent on the assigned homework, and (2) the amount of time and effort spent in reviewing and keeping current with the lecture material. Homework problems and their due dates will be listed on the Ch 443 Homework Page; I will make every effort ensure that the homework assignments cover current relevant lecture material, and often I will give hints/examples for homework problems during lecture. For this reason, it is essential that, as soon as a topic is covered in lecture, you attempt to solve any similar homework problems. Also, for this same reason, LATE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Further, I will not answer questions about a homework assignment on the same day it is due. You will always be given at least one workweek to complete an assignment, and there is no reason for you to wait until the last minute to work the assigned problems.
