About the Chem Club
The Southern Oregon Chemistry club is a forum in which SOU students interested in chemistry can meet, plan, and hold events about chemistry.  The Chem Club is open to all students of any major and is also FREE for all students.  The SOU Chem Club is a chapter of the American Chemical Society (www.acs.org or click here to visit the student affiliates section).  The ACS provides resources and information on running a club and can also provide funds to travel to national science conferences.  Funding for the club comes in part from the Inter-Club Council (ICC) of SOU and from fundraising efferts put forth by the club, which usually includes a weekly snack sale.

What we do in the Chem Club is up to its members.  In previous years the club has provided tutoring in science and math, put on fundraisers, run deparmental tours for incoming students, and held science education events in and around the community.  The club is most recognized for its Kids-N-Chemistry event held once a term.  The event is free for families in the community with young children who also share our joy for science.  The event demonstrates cool and fun experiments for children and allows them to get their hands dirty too by running kid-friendly projects and experiments.  The event is held on the weekend for a few hours in the middle of the day usually at the Ashland or Medford YMCA.  Recently the club has been approached by Science Works of Ashland to set up a program.

If this isn't convincing enough, just speak to an
officer or any member, or contact us electronically here.  You can also get more information by reading the Bylaws of the SOU Chem Club.
